Blogs

A blog (short for weblog) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order).  Most blogs, including these, are syndicated using RSS.  You can find more blogs on Technorati or Google's Blog Search (still in beta).  LIS Feeds maintains a list of library-related RSS feeds. You can also read our article about blogs and RSS.

NSLS is experimenting with this technology as a means to get fast, focused content to our members, as well, to reflect on ongoing issues facing libraries. Below are the most recent posts. See all NSLS blogs here.

Referential treatment

Who knew the reference desk was so much fun? Seasoned librarians are probably laughing their heads off thinking "You are SUCH a virgin!" But to me, the neophyte who's only been on the desk a handful of times,.. [More]

Things they don't teach you in library school

One resourceful librarian catches a thief:

Censorship is as censorship does

I find articles like this incredibly irritating. Someone decides he doesn't like certain books so he declares them "garbage" worthy of being burned. Then he opens up comments and others list books they'd throw onto the pyre.

And,.. [More]

You know what I hate?

Okay, I realize that is a negative way to start a blog entry, but the fact is I got up from lounging on my bed and beginning to read Princess Ben (by Catherine Murdock) to write this entry, and that is a measure of how much I hate something.

I hate the trend in using photographs on fiction covers... [More]

P.S.: I'm not (entirely) senile

I just realized I've written two almost identical posts in the past week or so, both talking about my Virtual Reference class. I wish I could say that's abnormal for me, but lately I do stuff like this all the time... [More]

Book News Around the World

Interesting concept - multi-media story site for children. Though I'm a book purist, this sounds like a pretty good idea to get kids interested. That's really the main point, after all.
